Welcome letter
Dear collegue,
on behalf of the three sponsoring organizations, the Federazione delle Associazioni Italiane di Counseling (FAIC), Old Dominion University (ODU), and NBCC International (NBCC-I), we invite you to The Development of the Counseling Profession in Italy and the United States: A Bilateral Conference. We expect this conference, which will be held on 31 May and 1 June 2008, to mark a significant event in the history of counseling in our respective countries, and we hope you are able to join us.
The purpose of this conference is to provide professional counselors from Italy and the United States the opportunity to share ideas, exchange information, and form relationships that will benefit their practice of counseling and will enhance the profession of counseling in both countries. We know that Italy and the United States already share many linkages; building them across professional counseling is a quite natural extension. Incidentally, this conference is an outgrowth of two such linkages – study programs in Italy hosted by ODU and Syracuse University.
This conference, which is the first of its kind between Italy and the United States, is intended to provide the stimulus for a continued dialogue between counselors in both countries. As such, the focus of this conference is on providing a context for how and why counseling has developed, as well as how counseling as a practice and a discipline might continue to grow. The realities faced by our nations, with their respective social, educational, political, and economic pressures, assure that counseling has much to contribute for coming generations.
Warmly,
